The Icebreaker Quickie In The Quarry - Races Rules
Read carefully: Non-compliance with any of the Race Rules may result in disqualification of the competitor from this event.
We will be operating this event in a public area (Halswell Quarry Park) which is open to the public - be aware of other people using the pathways. There will be signs advising public of the event, but always be aware of others using the tracks.
Always look out for other competitors, if anyone’s in strife – help them out.
Approved cycle helmets (NZ safety standard) must be worn at all times when riding the MTB leg.
Keep control of your bike. No jumps in this event please, especially if you’re in a single file group.
The MTB tracks (sections of both Crocodile & C2) have some rather technical parts - sharp turns on both incline and decline, as well as steep single track downhill, so PLEASE make sure you're confident enough to tackle the track. A demo video will be online soon showing the areas.
The second half of the MTB course uses the Quarry Rim Track which is a walking track, we are allowed to use this for biking during this event only! Biking any other time on this track is not permitted.
If competing in a team, the person cycling must dock bike before tagging runner.
No outside assistance is allowed by support crews to any competitor and no supporters will be allowed to follow riders on the course.
Because we’re so close to and racing in a forest, absolutely no fires!
Follow the event signs. The designated track is very clear, but we don’t want anyone taking a wrong turn.
Competitors must not deviate from the obvious track or attempt to take shortcuts.
Any competitor withdrawing from the race must inform a Race Marshal at the first possible opportunity after the decision to withdraw is made.
You are not permitted to alter or cut the event number plate in any way.
Asthmatics must carry an inhaler.
This is the first Quickie Event to have any substantial climbs/downhills for both running and biking so pace yourself, and there ain't no shame in getting off your bike and walking it.
Event organisers reserve the right to remove any competitor if they consider they are not capable of safely completing the event.
Please do not leave any rubbish along the route. All food wrappers, drink bottles, tubes etc must be carried to the finish line and not discarded anywhere along the route. (Anyone seen discarding rubbish will be disqualified)
Competitors must attend the pre race briefing 15 minutes before race start.
Competitors must obey instructions from Marshals at all times.
While there are no public roads as such, care must be taken when coming off the Quarry Rim Track and down towards the transition or start/finish line. Marshals will be present to hold any possible traffic but as always - be aware.
