Rapaki Up & Backie as the name suggests, is an awesome run/walk event up Rapaki Track and backie!
You may have trekked up many times before or perhaps this is a first, either way you'll be able to challenge yourself while enjoying the spectacular views of beautiful Ōtautahi the entire way up the Port Hills; Ngā Kohatu Whakarekareka o Tamatea Pōkai Whenua. There are loads of awesome spot prizes, as well as race results published on completion! There will be post race massages courtesy of Koha Fitness and free sausage sizzle cheers to the Good Company ChCh Rapaki Track is a gradual climb, the midsection flattens, then the track climbs again at a good gradient to the Rapaki Track car park on Summit Road, where you'll turn around and come backie! The surface is a wide, shared gravel and hard-pack 4WD track, so getting the baby buggy up is no problem and dogs love it too! Facilities available & Important information: Toilets available at the corner of Rapaki Rd and Centaurus Rd and there will be two port-a-loos at the start line. Occasional livestock (cows and/or sheep) Dogs must be on a lead at all times (and please take their poo!) *Note for parking on the day One of the conditions of allowing the Rapaki Up & Backie event, the Christchurch City Council have requested no entrant parking on Rapaki Road. Please park at Hansen Park or on Vernon Terrace, Aynsley Terrace and the surrounding streets. Just think of the walk up Rapaki Road to the start line your warm up! |
