It's AWN people! The Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry is happening, Saturday the 1st of March 2014, race start 8am.

I reckon we've got ourselves a humdinger of a course, it's shorter than other Quickies but unlike other Quickies it features some more tricky single track sections as well as some challenging uphill and fast downhill! That's for the mountain bike leg, the run uses the Quarry Rim Track both times - again, short and sweet but grunty with a decent climb to the top of the Quarry at the start, and some cool views from the summit.

Halswell Quarry Park is an awesome location for a Quickie and I greatly appreciate the help of Ranger Robbie out there, who's been very accommodating. Hopefully we get ourselves a good morning for it as we welcome in the first day of Autumn with The Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry! Get your entry in Quickie smart.

What a cracker day for a blat around the Quarry! I popped up to refine the MTB course for the upcoming Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry (1st March, 2014) and ended up plotting a new, much better one.

The course was going to be two loops of Crocodile and C2, but now it's just one, with the addition of a secret track I'll have to tell you about later. Wooo exciting! But I can tell you the track is 4.5km. I know! Seems short huh? Well trust me, it's a real gut buster and one course entrants will definitely need to have a practice on before race day. The majority is single track, and there are some quite technical sections downhill, as well as some gnarly uphill that will challenge pretty much everybody. Or at least I hope they will.

I hope this finds you well and healthy and having a great weekend.

Sunday the 1st December at Broad Park, Waimairi Beach saw perfect racing conditions for the Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach #2.

It was a great morning's event with some great times, no [serious] injuries and every single entrant received a prize. A massive thank you to Icebreaker for once again providing some awesome gear for prizes, and our new sponsor Cookie Time who supplied delicious and nutritious One Square Meal bites for the race packs which were very much appreciated and went down a treat! MIss Bliss also came to the party with vouchers for manicures (which were snapped up) and thank you to Manscape for the massage/hair cut vouchers (which also disappeared within seconds!) AND New York Deli for their loaded Hero Cards - damn they make a great sandwich!

Congratulations to everybody who took part in the Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach #2, you all freakin nailed it and the vibe was so relaxed, fun and friendly - exactly what we're going for with Quickie Events. To view all race results, check out the Quickie Racesplitter page.

And keep an eye out for the inaugural Quickie in the Quarry, coming your way March 1, 2014!

It's been way too long since the last post, I'm sorry, no excuses I'm slack I admit it, I'm sorry, moving on.

Just got back from a blat around Bottle Lake Forest Park, there were quite a few people out which was good to see. Those yellow lupin looking flowers in the picture sure do smell good! Although I'm sure those who suffer from hayfever won't share my enthusiasm. Might be worth taking some antihistamines prior to the race?

The tracks around Bottle Lake are in fine form, there is new seal along a section of the Southern Pegasus Bay Track which alleviates some of those sink-hole like sandy patches, but there still is one doozy early on. There's also a new section of the MTB leg which wasn't in the last Quickie on the Beach, but it will be well sign posted. It's going to be a great wee track! Now, if you haven't entered for The Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach, Broadpark, Waimairi Beach on Sunday the 1st December, then get cracking and ENTER HERE.

Hey there Quickie fans, how are we all? I hope those of you who took part in the Icebreaker Quickie in the Forest on the 1st September all had an awesome time and recovered speedily!

So I've put in the application with the CCC for the next Quickie Event - a Quickie on the Beach, proposed date: Sunday 1st December 2013. If you want to check out more info, please click here to read all about the last Quickie on the Beach, we'll be using the same course.

The aim for Quickie Events is for quarterly events - one at the beginning of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. So far we're looking at Quickie in the Forest - Spring, Quickie on the Beach - Summer, Quickie in the Hills - Autumn and Quickie in the Quarry - Winter. So the big missions will be plotting that course up the Port Hills without having to take out a traffic management plan, as well as the tracks at the Halswell Quarry that enable me to have one start/finish line/transition area. If successful, it'll be awesome! Will most definitely keep you posted.

Cheers everybody for your support so far. Now to work on those bigger track markers and more prizes...

I figured I'd get ahead with planning while I had the time on the weekend, and got through most of the admin for A Quickie In The Forest duathlon at Bottle Lake Forest Park.

There are still plans to hold a couple more Quickies before Forest, during the winter months - hopefully in the Port Hills and at Halswell Quarry, but seeing as I can use the same tracks as last year's Quickie in the Forest event, I thought I'd launch it sooner rather than later, and get back to work on finding those frustrating tracks up the hills.

If you took part in 2012, then we'd love to see you again and it'll be great to compare times, it's a good goal to smash last year's time that's for sure. For all the new comers, you're very welcome, it's a great event and the Bottle Lake tracks provide heaps of cool variation in terrain and scenery.

So keep Sunday the 1st of September free and welcome spring in style with A Quickie in the Forest!

A Very Quick Quickie!

The chilly morning of Saturday the 6th of April saw North New Brighton become home to some very fit and enthusiastic bodies at The Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach duathlon event.

It was a small but perfectly formed gathering, who gave it heaps, producing some impressive times, but most importantly had a great time. Running in sand is a bitch and the sand dune which had to be crossed certainly was a slap in the face after each transition! But the good kind. If there is such a thing. Also, a very excited dog on the first run stage provided a bit of incentive for some faster times - ah the joys of a beach run!

Coming in first for open female was Tabitha Dickson with a great time of 01:09:20, in open male was James Hoogenboezem at 00:57:46, a right scorcher. Linda Poulsen took vet female honours with 01:11:35 and male vets division saw war horse Mike Dent bring it home for the +40s with 01:01:43, a solid result.

There were only two teams - one in the mixed category and one in male, so needless to say they did very well in their field! Mixed team Elsie and Marnus chalked up 01:23:55 after a great effort and male team consisting of Dallas Wichman and Jake Rowse steamed over the finish line on 00:51:18 - those guys are freakin fit! Really awesome to watch, well done guys.

A massive thank you to all those who entered and gave it heaps, as well as competitors who began helping me pack down without even being asked - I really appreciated it.

Keep warm and stay healthy and we'll see you at the next Quickie :)

It sure is.

These will be your track markers on the day, mostly on the bike stage as there are a few tracks that criss cross over each other, and we don't want you taking the wrong turn! In addition to these, make sure you check out the 13km Bike Course video which shows you exactly where the track goes.

I don't imagine it'll be difficult to stay on course for the run stages, but if I can find some stakes then I'll probably put a few out with these 'ere markers on them. It'll be more for encouragement than direction I guess, but whatever helps!

Hope training is going well :)

As the name suggests, Icebreaker are getting involved with the Quickie on the Beach in April and we're stoked to have their support.

For you as an entrant this means you've got some really sweet prizes in the form of Icebreaker product up for grabs. We'll have something pretty bloody special for the winners of each category as well as Icebreaker spot prizes handed out on the day, so if nothing else, there's a great reason to go hard!

As soon as we've got the exact prize list through we'll chuck it up online for all to see. But for now, make sure you're getting out there for some runs and bike rides - enjoy the nice weather while it's still around! Eat well and we'll blog again soon :)
