Back to the real world
After spending Christmas and NY with the folks down in Geraldine, as well as a jaunt to Oamaru, I really think Quickies could spread further than Canterbury. There are so many awesome locations for running and biking tracks down North Otago, I'd love to try one out.
The only way this is going to happen of course, is by first making them a huge success in Christchurch, and the only way that's going to happen is if you good folks keep entering them! So, thank you for your support thus far, and if you'd like to bring a mate to the next event, please do so and let's get this Quickie thing cranking. I'd love to see more Cantabs getting involved with multisport, hopefully there are a few people out there who have it on their list of 'to-dos' for 2014!
Now, I'm not going to lie to you, I am feeling post holiday blues and not feeling a great desire to head back to work.. But one thing I find that really helps with my mood, is exercise. Being active is good for your body, and it's good for your brain. I still struggle with thinking too much when I'm out running or on the bike, but maybe that means I'm not going hard enough! Anyway if you're truly dreading starting back at work or even the year ahead, throw on your shoes and go for a run, I guarantee you'll feel better for it. Oh yeah, that picture is of Dad's new Pinarello, it's ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN SWEET!! I have got to get me one of those!
Go hard, catch you soon. Morgan :)
A Quickie Smoothie
Hey how was your Christmas? Hope it was awesome, and you had some quality time with friends and family.
A mate of mine in England found this recipe for 'the quickie' a simple and delicious looking smoothie with some healthy goodness in there too. Give it a whirl, and boost those "sex-drive-enhancing zinc levels" while you're at it!
After the last few days of eating very rich Christmas-y type foods (and imbibing more plonk than usual) I got thinking about moving back to more healthy eating - as you do. I found this handy site: NZ Nutrition Foundation, where there's all kinds of helpful information for people of all levels of fitness. Check it out if you need a shove in the right direction as you take on new goals for 2014.
Merry Quickie Christmas
Just a quickie blog to say Merry Christmas from Quickie Events! The pic is of me & Dad before a Christmas Eve bunch ride in Geraldine. Everybody was supposed to wear something wacky but we were the only ones who did! Oh well, it got a chuckle and was a fun ride.
Haven't been on road for years, but it felt great! Even got a hoon on Dad's brand new Pinarello which was AWESOME! Got to get me one of those. Maybe I could look at an on road Quickie at some stage? Hmmm, need to get my head around traffics management first.
Righto, well have a bloody great Christmas everybody, thank you very much for all your support over 2013, stay safe and catch you again real soon.
Quickie Quarry entry open
It's AWN people! The Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry is happening, Saturday the 1st of March 2014, race start 8am.
I reckon we've got ourselves a humdinger of a course, it's shorter than other Quickies but unlike other Quickies it features some more tricky single track sections as well as some challenging uphill and fast downhill! That's for the mountain bike leg, the run uses the Quarry Rim Track both times - again, short and sweet but grunty with a decent climb to the top of the Quarry at the start, and some cool views from the summit.
Halswell Quarry Park is an awesome location for a Quickie and I greatly appreciate the help of Ranger Robbie out there, who's been very accommodating. Hopefully we get ourselves a good morning for it as we welcome in the first day of Autumn with The Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry! Get your entry in Quickie smart.
What a cracker day for a blat around the Quarry! I popped up to refine the MTB course for the upcoming Icebreaker Quickie in the Quarry (1st March, 2014) and ended up plotting a new, much better one.
The course was going to be two loops of Crocodile and C2, but now it's just one, with the addition of a secret track I'll have to tell you about later. Wooo exciting! But I can tell you the track is 4.5km. I know! Seems short huh? Well trust me, it's a real gut buster and one course entrants will definitely need to have a practice on before race day. The majority is single track, and there are some quite technical sections downhill, as well as some gnarly uphill that will challenge pretty much everybody. Or at least I hope they will.
I hope this finds you well and healthy and having a great weekend.
Done & Dusted
Sunday the 1st December at Broad Park, Waimairi Beach saw perfect racing conditions for the Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach #2.
It was a great morning's event with some great times, no [serious] injuries and every single entrant received a prize. A massive thank you to Icebreaker for once again providing some awesome gear for prizes, and our new sponsor Cookie Time who supplied delicious and nutritious One Square Meal bites for the race packs which were very much appreciated and went down a treat! MIss Bliss also came to the party with vouchers for manicures (which were snapped up) and thank you to Manscape for the massage/hair cut vouchers (which also disappeared within seconds!) AND New York Deli for their loaded Hero Cards - damn they make a great sandwich!
Congratulations to everybody who took part in the Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach #2, you all freakin nailed it and the vibe was so relaxed, fun and friendly - exactly what we're going for with Quickie Events. To view all race results, check out the Quickie Racesplitter page.
And keep an eye out for the inaugural Quickie in the Quarry, coming your way March 1, 2014!
What a Beach
It's been way too long since the last post, I'm sorry, no excuses I'm slack I admit it, I'm sorry, moving on.
Just got back from a blat around Bottle Lake Forest Park, there were quite a few people out which was good to see. Those yellow lupin looking flowers in the picture sure do smell good! Although I'm sure those who suffer from hayfever won't share my enthusiasm. Might be worth taking some antihistamines prior to the race?
The tracks around Bottle Lake are in fine form, there is new seal along a section of the Southern Pegasus Bay Track which alleviates some of those sink-hole like sandy patches, but there still is one doozy early on. There's also a new section of the MTB leg which wasn't in the last Quickie on the Beach, but it will be well sign posted. It's going to be a great wee track! Now, if you haven't entered for The Icebreaker Quickie on the Beach, Broadpark, Waimairi Beach on Sunday the 1st December, then get cracking and ENTER HERE.
Hey there Quickie fans, how are we all? I hope those of you who took part in the Icebreaker Quickie in the Forest on the 1st September all had an awesome time and recovered speedily!
So I've put in the application with the CCC for the next Quickie Event - a Quickie on the Beach, proposed date: Sunday 1st December 2013. If you want to check out more info, please click here to read all about the last Quickie on the Beach, we'll be using the same course.
The aim for Quickie Events is for quarterly events - one at the beginning of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. So far we're looking at Quickie in the Forest - Spring, Quickie on the Beach - Summer, Quickie in the Hills - Autumn and Quickie in the Quarry - Winter. So the big missions will be plotting that course up the Port Hills without having to take out a traffic management plan, as well as the tracks at the Halswell Quarry that enable me to have one start/finish line/transition area. If successful, it'll be awesome! Will most definitely keep you posted.
Cheers everybody for your support so far. Now to work on those bigger track markers and more prizes...
Great day for it!
Man we've been having some great weather in Canterbury of late! With the next Quickie less than two months away, use these warm days to their full potential and get out for a wee run or bike and enjoy the sun.
Hello there, how are you? I thought I'd start trying to amass some Quickie Events merchandise to help crank the branding cogs of the Quickie machine. Look! A bumper sticker! Does anyone still use them? I love using vistaprint, which some of you may already know of, it's almost addictive! I wanted to see the quality of some of their products, and was quite impressed.
So now I have bumper stickers which are for sale ($10) and I imagine only the bold will be purchasing these puppies, as they do tend to garner interesting looks. Also on offer are Quickie tote bags, which I'll post a picture of shortly. Lastly I've got some Quickie pens but need to order more so I'll hold off on selling those just yet, but I can assure you, they're awesome and you'll wonder how you ever got by without them before.
Hope the training is going well and you're happy and healthy!
Hello Morgan Williams here, thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the site, and the events appeal. Any questions just sing out!
